Guwahati
Hugging the shores of the turbulent Brahmaputra,
Guwahati is the gateway to the enchanting North
Eastern India. The Light of the East, Pragjyotishpura,
as it was known once upon a time, is said to have
been a vast kingdom during the epic period of the
Mahabharata. Today, Guwahati is the hub of the region
and also its largest city.

A beautiful historical town and the headquarter
of Sonitpur district. It is famous for its ancient
temples and historical ruins. A major tea-producing

Bhalukpung
Situated on the border of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
It is famous for its scenic beauty, rafting and
angling. It is 56 kms. from Tezpur town. One can
visit the Nameri National Park from here.

Sibsagar
Once the capital of the mighty Ahoms now Sibsagar
is the headquarter of the district of the same name.
Famous for its numerous big tanks and historical
monuments like Ranghar, Karenghar, Joydol, Sibadol,
Bishnudol, Devidol etc. A major tea producing center.

Jorhat
It is also a major tea-producing center. The other
attraction of Jorhat are the Tocklai Tea Research
Center, Regional Research Laboratory and the famous
river island Majuli which is only 13 km. from Jorhat.

Dibrugarh
Situated on the South bank of Brahmaputra is a major
town and trade center of Upper Assam. It is also
a major tea producing and educational center. It
is well connected by air, rail and road with Guwahati.

Silchar
Gateway to Mizoram, Manipur and Tezpur and the head
quarter of Cachar District. The last capital of
the Kachari Kingdom. Khaspur is only a few km. from
Silchar. It is a major trade and educational center
in the Barak Valley. The famous shrine Bhuban hill
is a few km. from Silchar.

Dhubri
Situated on the north bank of Brahmaputra Dhubri
is the western most town of Assam. It is a district
headquarter and a major commercial center. It is
famous for Gurudwara of Guru Teg Bahadur Singh,
Rajbaris of Gauripur and ancient caves at Jogighopa. |
Digboi
Surrounded by numerous Tea Gardens and mystic blue
hills, Digboi is a major oil town. A hundred year
old Refinery and it's hundred and twelve year old
oil field still exist here. The Digboi Refinery
came into being in 1901 as the first refinery of
Asia and as the second one in the world. Today,
the oil field and refinery are the oldest continuing
oil field and refinery in the world.

Nagaon
A growing commercial town and district headquarter
of the district of the same name. Famous for Vaishnavite
Satra. Bordowa which is the birth place of Srimanta
Sankaradeva is 13 km. from the town. |
Majuli
The largest riverine island in the world, nestles
in the lap of the mighty river Brahmaputra,. Majuli
is a melting pot of various tribes and communities.
It is the nerve center of Assamese vaisnavite culture.
