Guwahati

Kamakhya and Bhubaneswari Temple

The Shakti Temple of mother Goddess Kamakhya situated on the top of Nilachal Hills is 8 Km. away from the railway station of Guwahati. The greatest shrine of tantric Shaktism finds mention in the inscription of the Allahabad pillar of Samudragupta. Devotees from all over India converge on this holy place during Ambubashi and Manasha Puja.

Nabagraha Temple
The temple of nine planets situated on Chitrachal Hill in Guwahati is till today a center of Astrological and Astronomical research.

Sukreswar
The temple of Lord Shiva is situated on the Bhasmachal or Dakini hill as mentioned in the old scriptures. It is famous for the 6th Jyotirlinga of India. Quite a large number of visitors from all over India visit this holy shrine. Just below the hill the North Brook Gate is situated which was built to welcome the Viceroy of India, North Brooke during British Raj.

Basisthashram
Situated in the southern-most rim of Guwahati city on the Sandhyachal hill is a well known holy cum picnic spot, called Basisthashram, after the great vedic Sage Bashistha, who is said to have lived here. Three rivulets named Sandhya, Lalita and Kanta meet here and flow perenially adding scenic grandeur to the place.
It is 12 Kms. from the Guwahati Railway Station. City buses ply regularly to the Ashram.

Umananda Temple
The great Shiva temple situated on the Peacock island in the middle of the Brahmaputra river in Guwahati attracts devotees from all over the country during Shiva Ratri. This temple island is believed to be the world's smallest human inhabited river island. It can be reached by ferry. An Ahom King built the temple in 1594, believing Uma, Siva's consort, had stayed there.

Tirupati Balaji Temple

Hajo

Madan Kamdev

Barely 40 kms. away from the sprawling metropolis Guwahati, on N.H. 52 Madan Kamdev is an enigma, a mystery, a marvel and in the words of Omar Khayam, "a veil past which I could not see". Very little is known about the origin of this magnificient archaeological ruins.Written history is almost silent on it, leaving wide room for conjectures and hypothesis.

Poa Macca
At Hajo itself, a place of pilgrimage for the Muslim. It is believed that by offering prayer here a faithful gains one fourth spiritual enlightenment of what could be gained at Macca. Hence the name.

Hayagriva-Madhab Temple
Thirty two Km. from Guwahati; at Hajo where religions meet Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism. Hayagriva Madhab Temple is an important place of pilgrimage both for Hindus and Buddhists


Sivasagar


Shivadol

Constructed by queen Madambika, wife of King Siva Singha of Ahom dynasty, this temple is believed to be the tallest Shiva Temple in India. In the temple, Lord Shiva is worshipped as the presiding deity. It is in the heart of Sibsagar town. There is a huge tank of the same name where thousands of migratory birds are seen during winter.

Dargah of Ajan Pir
The dargah of Muslim saint Shah Aulia alias Ajan Fakir, who led a Muslim reform movement in Assam, is a revered place of pilgrimage for the Muslim and Hindus alike.

Tezpur

Maha Bhairav Temple
Dedicated to Lord Shiva. This ancient Temple in Tezpur town is regarded as the oldest Shiva Shrine where thousands offers prayers on Shivaratri.
